The Day Before - New name for the return to Steam?

The Day Before: A Fresh Start with a New Name?

"The Day Before," the zombie survival MMORPG developed by Fntastic, has faced a major setback. Due to trademark issues, the game was removed from the Steam platform. However, there seems to be a glimmer of hope on the horizon: the developer may be willing to rename the game and has even submitted a trademark application for a new title.

The game has been in development since 2019 and has garnered a loyal fanbase despite controversies surrounding its marketing and the unfortunate choice of name. But what does the future hold for "The Day Before," and when can we expect its return to Steam?

The Drama Surrounding the Name

The source of the problem was an existing calendar app called "TheDayBefore". The issue: it has been around since 2010 - much longer than the game. When the owner of the trademark found out that Fntastic was developing a game with the same name, they took action and "The Day Before" disappeared from Steam.

Embarking on New Horizons with "Dayworld"

Now it seems that Fntastic and publisher Mytona have found a way to overcome this dilemma. They have filed a trademark application for the name "Dayworld". It may not be as dramatic as "The Day Before", but it is a step towards the future and hopefully a sign of the game's soon return to Steam.

Are there more problems?

Unfortunately, there is still no clear answer. It turns out that there is already a dystopian novel trilogy called "Dayworld". Mytona Fntastic's trademark application has not been examined yet, so it remains to be seen if further difficulties will arise.

Criticism of Fntastic

Aside from the naming issue, there has also been criticism of Fntastic's practices. The company sought unpaid volunteers for support, which did not sit well with many.

What does this mean for the release date?

Despite all the turbulence, the original planned release date of November 10th still seems to hold - at least for now. However, given the uncertain situation surrounding the trademark name, it wouldn't be surprising if there are further delays.
