The Outer Worlds

The Outer Worlds, an action role-playing game, will be released on October 25, 2019, and is being developed by Obsidian Entertainment. In addition to PC, the game will also be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and later for Nintendo Switch. Thus, the retro RPG covers all current platforms and offers all gamers an exciting science fiction adventure in the Fallout look. The Outer Worlds is powered by Unreal Engine 4, keeping it up to date with the latest technology.

What does The Outer Worlds have to do with Fallout?

The similarity to the Fallout series is no coincidence, as the game's directors, Leonard Boyarsky and Tim Cain, have had a major hand in its development. They are best known for their work on the first Fallout from 1997, which would not have been what we know today without Leonard Boyarsky and Tim Cain.

The game is also intended to be a direct sequel to the success story Fallout: New Vegas, which was also developed by Obsidian Entertainment. So most fans of the Fallout series should feel right at home in the game.

Parallels between The Outer Worlds and Fallout

In addition to the graphical similarity, the gameplay is also very similar to Fallout. There are multiple choice dialogues that have an impact on the further course of the story. The humor, especially the black humor, is not neglected in this title and will cause a strong smile from time to time. There are also various factions in the world of The Outer Worlds, each with its own goals and intentions. With all factions, your actions can make you more or less popular. This of course also has an impact on the storyline.

How is the gameplay of The Outer Worlds?

At the start of the game, you create your own game character and set skills and abilities. This allows you to either be more eloquent

What is the story of The Outer Worlds?

As the name suggests, the game is not only home to one world, but to several planets in a distant galaxy. Even the gamesetting is different here, because you find yourself in a Sci-Fi world that is controlled by megacorporations. These companies suppress the population and exploit the residents of the planets.

You begin your adventure on the spaceship of a slightly eccentric scientist named Phineas Wells. As a crew member of the colonist ship, you wake up from the cryosleep and find that the rest of the crew is still in cryosleep. You are supposed to find out what the board of directors of the megacorporations is up to and whether it can be stopped. You can decide for yourself whether you want to go up against the corporations or become part of this machinery. Money and power are not only very tempting on our planet.

The worlds you discover on your journey will not be a classic open world. The worlds will be much more small but open areas that you can explore and travel at will. Up to two NPC companions will accompany you on your missions. Each of these companions has its own story and you can learn more about your friends' motivation.

In addition to open areas in nature, there is at least one large city that you can enter. In this you can also buy all kinds of equipment, weapons, medication and much more. The whole system shows parallels to Fallout again, because the equipment brings different perks and values with it. Even the weapons can be modified and so you can specialize in long-range combat, for example.

You can also find out more from the official trailer of The Outer Worlds, which brings a real Fallout feeling with it.

Play The Outer Worlds on PC, PS 4, Xbox One or Switch?

The Outer Worlds publisher has announced that the game is optimized for Xbox One X. This should mainly affect the resolution and the game will run on the Xbox One X in 4K. On the PS 4 Pro it will only be playable in 1080p for the time being and this is probably how it will stay. The reason for this is probably that the development studio Obsidian Entertainment was bought by Microsoft in 2018. So the run on the Xbox version is to be strengthened a little.

If you play The Outer Worlds on the PC anyway, it doesn't
